One of the great things about the Edinburgh Jazz 'n Jive is the mix of dance styles you see on the dance floor. Most Friday nights you will see travelling dances such as Foxtrot, Quickstep and Waltz, together with sopt dances, like Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa and Collegiate Shag
It is ballroom tradition for travelling dances to move counter-clockwise around the edge of the dance floor with spot and slower dances staying in the centre of the floor. This allows couples dancing travelling dances and couples dancing spot dances to dance to the same music.
If the dance floor is particularly busy, please be extra aware of those around you. On a busy dance floor, it's good practice to condense your movements, avoid kicks and flicks and be prepared to move, even at the last minute, in order to avoid a collision. Bumps and collisions will happen. When they do, don't forget to apologise and make sure all is OK!
